How Texas Tax Sales Work
Every Texas county follows the same basic process, governed by the Texas Property Tax Code:
- When: First Tuesday of every month (if no properties are listed, the sale simply doesn't happen that month)
- Where: County courthouse steps (or a designated area at the courthouse)
- Minimum bid: The total amount of delinquent taxes, penalties, interest, and legal fees
- Redemption period: 2 years for homestead and agricultural properties; 180 days for non-homestead, non-agricultural properties
